A Fresh Start

Cancer is a disease that not only kills its direct victim but also leaves problems, anxieties and debts to the people left behind. When my grandmother has been diagnosed with Colon Cancer a year ago, all of us who surrounds her have done everything to extend her life. She has to undergo 6 types of Therapy which includes chemotherapy. Every therapy, especially the one that involved chemicals was so expensive, not to mention her daily diet and vitamins to stay healthy and alive.
In our desire to make her stay longer, my family per se had resorted to a lending company. It was probably out of anxiousness and worries that we were not able to fully compensate how the interest rate worked in their policy. Months after my grandmother was buried, my wife and I received letters, harassment calls and even threatened us if we cannot give the payment back in month’s time.
We consulted an attorney in North Carolina bankruptcy office. We told him about our situation. My wife and I had also lost our jobs when decided to personally care for my grandmother so we only live by our savings. The skilled attorney assessed our income including our assets and liabilities. He recommended we file for North Carolina Chapter 7 bankruptcy. In that way, no collectors can harass us and that we can have the chance of living peacefully until we were able to get back on our feet and be able to have a fresh start. It helped us through indeed.
